Category Overview
The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.
Project Highlights
The Department of Fish and Wildlife used this grant to restore 260 acres of abandoned agricultural fields in the Asotin Creek Wildlife Area. The land was restored to wildlife habitat by planting native grasses and forbs. Restoration work included a combination of integrated vegetation management methods, local native seed mixes and monitoring to develop a weed-resistant native plant community. This site offered an opportunity for WDFW to train other staff in restoration techniques. In addition, a three-way exclosure was constructed as a way to compare habitat use of the restored field over time by wildlife.
