Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
This project will develop a significant public park in a dense urban area that is very deficient in recreational opportunities. Two acres of asphalt adjacent to TT Minor Elementary School will be replaced with a variety of improvements for active and passive recreation. Improvements will include a turf field for soccer and softball, an ADA accessible children’s play area, ornamental landscaping, park furniture, art work, community gardens, walking paths, and a small parking area. This project is a joint effort between Seattle’s Central Area community groups, the Seattle Public School District, and the Seattle Parks Department. Planning and design has been carefully coordinated to ensure that children from TT Minor, as well as the general public, will have opportunities to use this public park.
