The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.

Project Highlights

The Peninsula Metropolitan Park District used this grant to purchase Knight Forest, an 18.79-acre property located on 70th Ave NW, just north of and adjacent to Harbor Family Park on the Gig Harbor Peninsula. The primary recreation opportunity provided by the prperty will be passive trail use. The Knight Forest property will add trails, natural areas, and habitat components to the adjoining Harbor Family Park site which will have ball fields and other active recreation elements.

Location Details

From Hwy 16, exit at City Center/Pioneer/Wollochet and head west, away from downtown Gig Harbor on Wollochet for 2.5 miles, continue through bend onto 40th St for 0.7 more miles. Turn left on 70th Ave for 0.3 miles to 3500. Park along the east side of 70th Ave, or further south at corner of 32nd St and walk back up.

What is the WWRP

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
