Project Highlights
The city of Lakewood will acquire two parcels totaling 3.5 acres in the McChord Gate neighborhood to form Springbrook Park. This will be the first park that Lakewood will acquire and develop since incorporation. Lack of adequate parks was one of the primary reasons that Lakewood citizens elected to incorporate. The McChord Gate neighborhood has been identified by city leadership as the highest priority for placing a new park because this isolated area of Lakewood currently has no public park facilities; nonetheless, it serves nearly 5,000 residents. Our intent with this park is to make it an oasis of sorts for it’s residents. We intend to construct a multipurpose field for baseball, football, and soccer; a playground for smaller children, and basketball courts are intended as well. The site will have a small restroom, as well as picnic amenities. A stream and small dirt road separate these two parcels. Lakewood should have an easement for the stream and road in the near future. Future development plans are to build a bridge to connect this acquisition with a smaller parcel (2.24 acres) located on the opposite side of the stream. This project is for acquisition and first phase development, which will essentially turn this site into a community park. A legal description of the properties to be acquired is described in Exhibit A, and is by this reference incorporated into the Project Agreement.
