Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
This 31+acre acquisition in Thurston County addresses a high priority need identified by the city for both neighborhood and community park space in a service zone devoid of any public parks. In addition, the acquisition addresses two of the city’s highest priorities: waterfront access and stream corridor/habitat preservation. Over 2,150 feet of a salmon bearing stream (Woodland Creek) will be added to sections of a corridor already in public ownership. Site amenities include: a house, three small structures, Woodland Creek, and a small pond that has a limited bass fishery. The structures will be used for recreational and maintenance support facilities for the site. Future facilities at the site include: walking trails, day camp, playground, picnic shelters, multiple play structures, restrooms, sport courts, and ropes course. Environmental education programs will occur on site.
