Category Overview
Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
The City of Olympia used this grant to acquire 67.68 acres of property to develop a natural open space known locally as Kaiser Woods. The property is located in Southwest Olympia on Park Drive SW, just southwest of Ken Lake. The primary recreation opportunity provided by the project will be nature trails used for hiking and mountain biking. The City received a waiver to purchase the property and was reimbursed through this grant. This grant funds only the acquisition of the property.
