Category Overview
Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
The new inclusive play environment is complete and provides accessible paths and play equipment with a maritime-theme representing the fishing heritage of Gig Harbor. This active recreation facility is becoming a highly used park destination for regional visitors and our local community. In order to expand the play area under the swings, the City’s general funds were used to increase the square footage of Pebbleflex by approximately 400 square feet. The City also invested in additional interpretive signage and etched pathway pavers commemorating local donors. As a complement to the play area and it’s educational signage, the City collaborated with the Maritime Committee to fund a public art placement next to the entrance depicting local marine habitat by nationally renowned sculptor, Jeff Samudosky.
