Category Overview
Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
Project Highlights
The City of Bellingham will use this grant for the fee simple acquisition of approximately 27.5 acres, located 2 miles north of the city center. Acquisition of this property will allow for future development of a neighborhood park and provide a significant multimodal trail hub connecting existing and future trails in the City’s greenway network. The property contains a mix of both cleared, level ground suitable for a future playground, restrooms, sport courts, and recreation facilities as well as forested areas and wetlands that can support an accessible loop trail. The primary recreational experiences will be active play, field sports, and walking.
