Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Jefferson Land Trust will use this grant to purchase a conservation easement on the approximately 77-acre Natembea Farm, located along the city limits in both the City of Port Townsend and in unincorporated Jefferson County. The purpose of this acquisition is to permanently preserve the prime agricultural soils and productivity, wetland habitat, and scenic character of the largest farm within the City of Port Townsend. Natembea Farm currently provides land to six diverse agricultural operations that produce vegetables, fruit and nut trees, flowers, goat meat and beef for local markets. The primary benefit of this project is the preservation of working farmland.
