Category Overview
Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Blue Mountain Land Trust acquired an agricultural conservation easement on the Seachris family farm, permanently protecting 215 acres of a 230 acre property in Walla Walla County, WA. Located along the Touchet River, the property contains nearly 200 acres of prime agricultural soils and ample water rights for irrigation. The property is located immediately outside the town of Touchet along a paved road, and is approximately two miles from US Highway 12; this provides ready access to markets for agricultural products, but also made the area an attractive target for development. In August, 2021, the property was preserved for its farmland values under a conservation easement.
