Analysis of Outdoor Recreation Industry Finds its Contribution to GDP Larger Than That of Oil, Gas Extraction

New numbers about the outdoor recreation industry are making big waves!

Excerpt: “For the first time ever the U.S. Department of Commerce looked specifically at the economic impact of outdoor recreation. The analysis was published last week.

The analysis found that outdoor recreation was worth $373.7 billion and comprised 2 percent of the nation’s 2016 Gross Domestic Product. In fact, the outdoor recreation industry is larger than the oil, gas and mining industries, which made up 1.4 percent of the nation’s GDP in 2016.”
