Springbrook Park
- Status
- Funded in 1999
The City of Lakewood seeks WWRP aid to acquire and develop its first park since incorporation in 1997. The McChord Gate neighborhood has been identified by city leadership as the highest priority location for a new park. This area of Lakewood is isolated from the rest of the community by Interstate 5. With the exception of a basketball hoop at the community center, the McChord Gate area currently has no public park facilities, nor public or private schools with recreation areas. The 4.5 acres would be developed with a multi-purpose field for baseball, football, and soccer, a basketball court, playground, parking areas, trail, picnic sites, restroom and open play meadows. To accommodate cricket players in the community, Lakewood hopes to design the field to allow for cricket play as well.
Location
The proposed McChord Gate Park is located east of I-5 off Bridgeport Way before the McChord Air Force Base main gate.

What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
