Gig Harbor Skateboard Park

Status
Funded in 1999
WWRP Applicant: Gig Harbor Public Works WWRP Category: Local Parks WWRP Grant: $92,348 Applicant Match: $92,348 Project Type: Development County: Pierce  Legislative District: 26th

The City of Gig Harbor will use this grant to construct a skate park at its planned civic center. Youth and parents in the area have worked hard to design and support the facility, demonstrated by a standing-room-only crowd of supporters when city officials discussed the facility. The City is committed to addressing the needs of youth and redirecting skateboarding activities from commercial and private properties. With council approval, volunteers and city officials met with the youth to design a park to meet their needs. The concrete surfaced park will be below the surrounding grade and will provide a pyramid, ramps, 1/4-pipe, jumps, steps, railing and a “snake run.” With close proximity to the civic center and law enforcement, the facility will provide a safe community asset. The project has received $20,000 in donations to date.

RCO Project Number: 98-1219
