Chesterley Park Expansion

Status
Funded in 1999
WWRP Applicant: Yakima Parks & Recreation WWRP Category: Local Parks WWRP Grant: $266,000 Applicant Match: $273,272 Project Type: Development County: Yakima  Legislative District: 14th

Chesterley Park is a 30 acre regional park located in northwest Yakima. With earlier grants and local bond issues, the city acquired and developed about half the site, including soccer fields, play and picnic facilities and parking. This proposal will develop the remaining 12.5 acres, adding two additional soccer fields, a skate park, 118 additional parking spaces and landscaping. The new fields will help address the soaring popularity of the sport; adult soccer alone has grown more than 63% during the past seven years. In an effort to accommodate players, adult soccer has cut the number of league games in half and eliminated practice. Despite these efforts the existing fields are worn out. With this WWRP grant, the city can complete development of this regional park. Plans also include the construction of a 10,000 sq. ft. skate park to meet the needs of youth in Yakima.

RCO Project Number: 98-1123

Location

Chesterley Park is located in the City of Yakima at North 40th Avenue and River Road. The park is located in the northwest portion of the City near the 40th Avenue exit off State Route 12.
