As we usher in the new year we also say goodbye to one of our state’s greatest champions of the great outdoors. Doug Walker – husband, father, hiker, climber, biker, and philanthropist – died in a hiking accident doing what he loved, hiking in the beautiful Cascade Mountains.

Doug and his wife Maggie had an enormous impact on philanthropy in Washington state, founding Social Venture Partners and participating as Chairman of the Board at Fred Hutch. Conservationists and outdoor recreation enthusiasts across Washington state and the country are mourning the loss of this Cascadian hero.
