Parks and Outdoor Recreation Legislative Day a Huge Success!

February 11, 2016

On January 28 the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Coalition partnered with the Washington Recreation & Parks Association for the 2016 Parks and Great Outdoors Legislative Day.

Conservation and outdoor recreation enthusiasts converged in Olympia to celebrate and advocate for the parks, trails, farmland, and wildlife habitat that make Washington state such a special place to call home. And with statutory changes on the line for the Washington Wildlife & Recreation Program, it’s no exaggeration to say that, this year, the stakes were as high as ever. Thankfully, Washingtonians love their parks and green spaces and aren’t aren’t afraid to say so!

Over 100 citizens from across the state gathered to meet with their legislators and discuss the importance of passing SB 6227 and HB 2509, which update and modernize the WWRP. Governor Jay Inslee congratulated the Coalition and its supporters during a reception that capped off one of the most successful lobby days in Coalition history. The Coalition staff is excited to make next year’s legislative day even more successful so that legislators understand why funding WWRP is so important.
