Groundbreaking Begins for Lacey’s Largest Park, Greg Cuoio Park

March 18, 2025

Construction has officially begun on Greg Cuoio Park, a massive 537-acre site set to become Lacey’s largest park and a major outdoor recreation destination. Named after former city manager Greg Cuoio, who helped acquire the land, the park will preserve forests, wetlands, and sensitive habitats while offering new public amenities.

Phase 1A, covering 139 acres, will feature an inclusive playground and about two miles of trails for walking and biking. The $6.5 million project is supported by nearly $1 million in grants, including a $499,550 state legislative appropriation and $500,000 from the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program-Local Parks Grant, ensuring a bright future for this nature-focused community space.

Planned amenities include an 18-hole disc golf course, a park shelter, and the first phase (5,000 SF) of a fully accessible playground. Additional features like seating areas, open play spaces, signage, and emergency access will make the park inclusive and welcoming for all ages and abilities.

Designed with conservation in mind, the project prioritizes passive recreation while protecting wetlands, sensitive habitats, and local waterways. Non-motorized trail use, family gatherings, and nature-focused play will be at the heart of the park experience.

Greg Cuoio Park aligns with Lacey’s 2017 Parks & Rec Comprehensive Plan and reflects community priorities. According to the recent Lacey Cares survey, parks remain a top reason residents choose to live in Lacey. Once complete, this park will provide environmental, wellness, economic, and social benefits to the entire region.
