The City of Kent used a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant, along with cash and $1,000,000 in RCO grants (RRG Water Access and WWRP), to replace an aging swimming and fishing dock at Lake Meridian Park. This community park serves residents of the east hill of Kent and the surrounding cities of Covington, Maple Valley, and Auburn. The park has the only swimming beach with lifeguards in the city and typically attracts 100,000 visitors a summer. The previous dock was built in 1985 and was in much need of repair. City leaders were faced with the decision to close, remove, or replace the dock. Identified as a priority project in 2012 by the Kent Parks Citizen Advisory Board, the dock was replaced. Replacing the dock ensures this park remains a popular year-round destination for residents.
