Fall Celebration

We’re thrilled to officially announce that Bob Ferguson (invited) and Dave Reichert will be joining us at our Fall Celebration this Thursday, October 17 for a bipartisan tribute to honor the legacy of Governor Dan Evans, one of Washington’s greatest champions of conservation.

Governor Evans was renowned for his ability to work across the aisle—especially for the good of our outdoors. We’re delighted the candidates have agreed to join us—just weeks before the election!—to honor that legacy.

In the past 35 years, the Coalition has successfully leveraged over $2 billion in state, local, and private dollars through the WWRP grant program for over 1,700+ parks, trails, wildlife habitat, and working lands projects including over 365K acres of land preserved!

This event is FREE to attend. A minimum suggested donation of $175 and donations of $250 or more will be matched.

Location: Stoup Brewing Capitol Hill; 1158 Broadway, Seattle, WA 98122

Chevon Powell

2024 Joan Thomas Awardee

Chevon Powell is the founder of Golden Bricks Events (GBE) a company dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in the outdoors through innovative events and festivals. Since 2018, she has spearheaded the Refuge Outdoor Festival,—an annual multi-day camping experience that is geared toward Black, Indigenous, People of Color and allies to build community through outdoor recreation, conversations, music, and art. Each year, GBE’s programming has grown, engaging over 5,000 individuals of color across the United States.

Chevon’s love of nature and the outdoors began in childhood at Camp Janus, a camp for burn survivors, where she learned to fish and loved looking at the stars; those experiences sparked a life-long love of hiking and camping. Chevon’s personal experience as a Black woman in the outdoors has fueled her work as a community advocate for outdoor access and environmental justice, dispelling myths that race, ethnicity, gender, or ability should dictate who belongs in nature and what kind of experiences people can have. Chevon serves as a mentor for Young Women Empowered and recently served on the board of Bike Works and the Governors Workgroup on Black Washingtonians Outdoor Recreation Experience. Chevon is an avid hiker, backpacker, napper and splits her time building community and connecting with family and friends in Seattle and Houston.

New Cowgirl Camp

2024 Forward Awardee

New Cowgirl camp is a five-day, immersive experience for women that combines classroom and hands-on learning in managing ecosystems with livestock. Beginning farmers, ranchers, and those exploring a career in regenerative agriculture, gain an opportunity to learn about current, science-based management practices that will put their future farm or ranch business on a sustainable footing.

During the workshop, students explore the basics of grazing planning, ecosystem monitoring, low-stress livestock handling, and veterinary medicine with a celebratory, supportive group of women. Attendees walk away with a handle on what kind of future they are managing towards and how to take the next steps to achieve their farming and ranching goals.
