Coalition Supports $120 M Funding Request to Governor Inslee

September 16, 2016

On September 9th, the Coalition sent a letter to the Governor’s office and the Office of Financial Management (OFM) in support of the RCO’s $120 million capital budget request. The letter highlighted why WWRP is a cost-effective strategy for advancing several of the statewide Results Washington goals and outcome indicators.

This year, 220 applications were submitted by local, state, tribal, and non-profit groups for funding in the next biennium. Collectively, they seek to leverage $300 million (comprised of $164 million in requested state WWRP grant funds and $138 million in local and private matches) to advance their communities’ highest priority conservation and recreation needs.

Investing in outdoor recreation and conservation through the WWRP contributes to success in four of the five major goals contained in the Governor’s Results Washington statewide strategy, such as encouraging a prosperous economy, clean environment, healthy and safe communities, and effective government.

If you’d also like to tell the Governor how funding the WWRP can help achieve state-level priorities, please stay tuned for our sign-on letter in support of our $120 Million WWRP funding request later this fall. The letter will be distributed through our networks starting October 21st.

In the meantime, please take a moment to complete a recent Results Washington survey and weigh in on why investing in outdoor recreation and conservation is important to you. The survey, accessible here, takes about five minutes to complete.
