OTHELLO — Upgrades to the Lions Park playground in Othello, money for a new evidence building for the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and fiber upgrades to improve broadband access to the Wanapum Village are among the projects included in the 2021-23 capital budget, which was approved by the state Legislature last week.
The city of Othello received a $500,000 grant from the Washington Wildlife Recreation fund for new equipment at the Lions Park playground, and $350,000 from the Youth Activity Facilities program to replace two basketball courts and add two more.
The “Pride Rock” park project will replace the existing swings and climbing bars with new equipment. Separate playground areas will be constructed for children 5 and younger, and for kids 5 to 12 years of age. The existing gravel surface will be replaced with more playground-friendly materials. The new playground will have more trees and picnic tables, and improved accessibility for children with physical disabilities.
