Our staff was pleased to be on hand to celebrate the opening of a critical 1.1 mile-long segment of the Lake to Sound Trail Wednesday, February 26, 2020. This section connects with the Green River Trail on the west end and ends at Naches Ave SW.
This segment creates a beautiful and quick shortcut that would otherwise take 40+ minutes to walk via surface streets (we know, because google maps tried to send us that way as we were finding our way to the celebration!). It also circles the north edge of the Black River Riparian Forest, which is the home to one of the largest heron rookeries in the region.
King County DNR and Parks used a WWRP grant to construct this first of 5 new segments of the Lake to Sound Trail, once completed it will be a 16-mile non-mortorized, multi-use recreational trail spanning from the south end of Lake Washington in Renton, to the shoreline of Puget Sound in Des Moines. This will provide improved recreation and commuting opportunities in this fast-growing region of King County.
