The city of Wenatchee gets a start Monday on two public park projects with a combined price tag of $3.3 million.

Renovations begin Monday morning on Kiwanis Methow Park, at the intersection of Spokane Avenue and Methow Street, for a complete rebuild to feature a new playground, restrooms, walking paths and a central pavilion. The 1.26-acre park, initially dedicated in 1933, currently has no restroom facilities and outdated play structures.

On Tuesday, the city breaks ground on the Hale Skate Park, located in five-acre Hale Park at the foot of South Worthen Avenue. The existing off-leash dog park will be joined by a skate complex designed by local skaters with the help of Seattle skate-engineering firm Grindline.

As with Methow Park, grant funding for the $279,000 Hale project comes from the state Recreation Conservation Office Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program and the federal Land and Water Conservation fund.
