February’s category of the month is Trails. Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
This month’s proposed project is the Ferry County Rail Trail Phase 5. Ferry County would use this $376,000 grant to complete the 25-mile Ferry County Rail Trail. This final phase of the project will surface almost 9 miles of the trail and improve the trailhead at Curlew. It will also allow for a variety of recreational uses including biking, walking, and winter activities such as cross country skiing and will increase tourism for the area and its surrounding businesses.
