Join the Ferry County Rail Trail Partners for a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of the Rail Trail’s Curlew Lake section! We will be meeting at the Kiwanis Road Trailhead on August 28th, at 1:00 PM to hear local trail advocates and partners commemorate this achievement and discuss how we can ensure new recreational and public access opportunities in Ferry County.
The Ferry County Rail Trail Project is an important site to celebrate because it addresses the high priority recreational and public access needs in Ferry County through the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP). The project, sponsored by Ferry County, builds upon over ten years of creative planning and community organizing to transform 25 miles of a former railroad grade into a non-motorized trail. This section, which runs from the trestle to Herron Creek Road, is a 5.5 mile long segment of the trail on the west side of Curlew Lake, 7 miles NE of Republic. The project is an impressive example of how WWRP funds have helped address a critical need for non-motorized paths by improving access to biking, cross country skiing, and walking trails.

Directions to Kiwanis Road Trailhead
From Republic, head south on N Clark Ave toward E 6th street. Continue onto WA-20 E/WA-21 N/Sherman Pass Scenic Byway for 2.6 miles then turn left onto WA-21 N. After about 8.0 miles and passing Curlew Lake State park, turn left onto Kiwanis Road. When you reach an intersection with Brenner Lane, turn right to stay onto Kiwanis road. The event is located at coordinates 48.763994, -118.658498 in the open space just after Kiwanis road intersects the Rail Trail (see map 1 and 2)
Parking
There is a limited parking area available directly at the event site. There are, however, alternative parking options available along Kiwanis road.

Take the opportunity to explore more sites in Ferry County! The event location is located a few miles north of Curlew Lake State Park and the Ferry County Fair Grounds, which both offer tent and RV camping options. There are also plenty of accommodations available in the Town of Republic.
