With Land Sparse in Puget Sound, a Huge Win for Farmers

February 24, 2017

PCC Farmland Trust has purchased a conservation easement of 284 acres of Pierce County farmland to protect the Mt. View Dairy Farm. The Mensonides family will farm the land organically, with the goal of breeding their cows to eat more grass and less grain.

“It’s like cows used to be,” says Mensonides. Referring to beneficial omega fatty acids, he adds, “Then we can get the mega 3’s and mega 6’s that we promise you in our milk.”

This is “an opportunity for us to make sure there’s farming in the future that is both sustainable and food producing,” says Trust executive Director Rebecca Sadinsky.
