Twenty-seven endangered Columbian white-tailed deer were relocated to the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge to save them from possible flooding in their old home.
At Ridgefield in southwest Washington, the deer will have more than 5,000 acres to roam and could soon have that area expanded. If approved in the state budget, a Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program grant would allow Clark County to purchase nearly 200 acres of wildlife habitat at Flume Creek. This property borders the existing refuge and could provide key habitat for salmon, bald eagles, water fowl, and multiple varieties of deer.
