We need your help to transform outdoor recreation

May 30, 2014

Did you know 63 percent of Washingtonians participate in outdoor recreation? We’re lucky to have a state full of outdoors enthusiasts and you can broaden your impact.

Help the Coalition board and staff show how far-reaching and diverse the outdoor constituency truly is in our state.

In April, Governor Jay Inslee launched a Blue Ribbon Task Force on Parks and Outdoor Recreation with the intent of transforming the recreation economy in Washington State.

The Task Force is focusing its thinking in three areas:

  • Stable funding for State Parks
  • Support the outdoor recreation and tourism industries in Washington
  • Get children out into nature

Five Coalition board members were named to the 29 member task force.

Since the kickoff, the Task Force has begun holding field hearings across the state. To date, hundreds of people and organizations have weighed in at the hearings, through subcommittees, and online.

You can give your comments at Engage Outdoor Washington or in person.

The next hearing is in Spokane the morning of June 10th and others will follow around the state. See the complete list.

The Coalition has been working with the task force to demonstrate the broad and diverse constituencies of outdoor recreation, from business to sportsmen to hikers and bikers.

Want to weigh in on the importance of the outdoors to you or your organization? Coalition outreach director Tom Bugert (Tom@WildlifeRecreation.org) would be happy to help!
