JT Nelson & Catherine Kemp Join Coalition as Operations Manager, Philanthropy Contractor

April 29, 2026

Staff transitions are a natural (if sad!) part of work, but they carry extra weight on a small team like ours. This spring, we said goodbye to two incredible colleagues – Caitie, after seven years of dedicated leadership, and Sophia, after three impactful years with the Coalition. We’re deeply grateful for all they brought to this work and wish them the very best in what’s next!

At the same time, we’re thrilled to announce two new additions to the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition team: JT Nelson, who joins us as Operations Manager, and Catherine Kemp, who joins us as Philanthropy Contractor!

Together, they bring strong experience in nonprofit leadership, fundraising, communications, and operations that will support the Coalition’s mission to protect and expand Washington’s outdoor spaces.

JT Nelson, Operations Manager

JT Nelson joined the Coalition in April 2026 as Operations Manager, bringing over two decades of experience in nonprofit operations and management.

His background includes leadership roles with Goodwill of Orange County, Volunteers of America Western Washington, Hopelink, and most recently NAMI Washington, where he served as Director of Development.

JT is passionate about the connection between outdoor access and wellbeing, and lives on Whidbey Island with his family, where they spend much of their time outdoors exploring Washington’s landscapes.

“Washington’s natural spaces are not just places I visit; they are places that ground me, restore me, and inspire me. That is why the mission of the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition resonates so strongly,” said JT Nelson.

Catherine Kemp, Philanthropy Contractor

Catherine Kemp joined the Coalition in April 2026 as a Philanthropy Contractor, bringing experience in fundraising, communications, and community engagement in outdoor-focused organizations.

She has worked in nonprofit development, wilderness medicine, and outreach across the Northeast and Pacific Northwest, with a focus on expanding equitable access to the outdoors.

Originally from Vermont, Catherine enjoys pottery, hiking with her dog, and gardening.

“We are thrilled to welcome JT and Catherine to the Coalition team,” said Yvonne Kraus, Executive Director. “JT brings deep operational expertise, and Catherine brings strong experience in philanthropy and engagement. Both will be invaluable as we continue advancing our mission to secure funding for wildlife, parks, farmland, and trails throughout our beautiful state.”

Please join us in welcoming them to the team!
