We are thrilled to announce that Nathaniel Rees joined the Coalition on June 23 as our Policy and Communications Manager. He brings a strong background in policy and advocacy, grassroots organizing, and strategic communications. Prior to WWRC, he worked at The Mountaineers, advancing policy and advocacy initiatives focused on outdoor recreation, conservation, and expanding equitable access to public lands.
“Besides his professional interest in conservation and recreation policy, Nathaniel is passionate about writing and storytelling,” said Yvonne Kraus, Executive Director. “We’re excited to have his guidance and leadership on our State Policy Committee, and we look forward to his informative and engaging summaries and media releases that showcase the breadth of the Coalition’s work and impact, and our vision for the future. Welcome to the team, Nathaniel!”
Nathaniel’s professional journey has spanned recreation policy, elementary education, and political organizing. While he’s valued each chapter, he feels most at home working at the intersection of conservation and recreation.
A resident of Washington since 2018, Nathaniel was initially drawn by the peaks and glaciers but stayed for the local parks. He’s passionate about ensuring everyone has access to green spaces and is proud to support WWRC’s mission to fund community-driven conservation and recreation projects.
Outside of work, Nathaniel is an avid mountaineer, backcountry skier, and backpacker. He often hauls his easel and paints along on his adventures. When he’s not deep in the mountains, you can find him polar plunging at Golden Gardens, catching a movie at one of Seattle’s historic theaters, or on an ongoing quest to find the city’s best fried chicken.
