Washington State Parks grants play a vital role in preserving and enhancing outdoor recreation by funding new campgrounds, improving park resources, and protecting historical sites. These grants help develop world-class parks, ensuring access to nature and cultural heritage for all visitors.
This month’s featured project is Mount Spokane Bear Creek, located on the ancestral land of the Spokane, Ktunaxa ɁamakɁis, Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla people. With a $1.9 million WWRP State Parks grant, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission acquired the 110-acre Bear Creek Lodge property, which includes 13 campsites, a group camp, and a tubing hill.
This acquisition helps preserve the park’s trail network, increases parking capacity—especially during winter and huckleberry season—and opens possibilities for a future mountain shuttle hub. By expanding access and protecting natural spaces, this project continues Washington’s commitment to exceptional outdoor recreation.
