Parks & Great Outdoors Legislative Week

February 20, 2025

What an incredible Parks & Great Outdoors Legislative Day!  We couldn’t have asked for a more impactful day, and it’s all thanks to YOU! Your dedication and passion for Washington’s outdoor future helped make this year’s advocacy effort truly powerful. With 113 advocates joining us, we couldn’t have accomplished this without you!

This is a critical budget year and a year of new leadership, from the Governor’s Office to 29 new legislators. Together we showed up as a strong, effective, and longstanding Coalition —united in our mission to protect and expand access to parks, trails, working lands, and wild spaces. With your help:

  • We met with 62 legislators, including 24 members of key budget committees, ensuring that funding for the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) remains a priority.
  • We introduced 10 new legislators to the WWRP, building strong champions for conservation and outdoor recreation.
  • We amplified our call for $150 million in WWRP funding—essential for meeting the growing demand for recreational access, farmland preservation, and habitat protection.

Two days later, despite the wintery conditions, 150 of you braved the elements to join us at the Governor’s Mansion. Together we demonstrated an unwavering passion for the outdoors and the WWRP, a sense of community that gives us the strength to navigate the challenge of our current times, and the confidence in knowing that Washington will continue to showcase excellence in protecting and preserving our Great Outdoors.

A sincere thank you to Governor Ferguson for graciously welcoming us into his home, sharing his time with us, and to the Mansion’s staff for their warm hospitality and delicious appetizers.

Your dedication to ensuring a healthy and shared future for Washington helped make this year’s reception one for the history books – both in attendance and in spirit. Thank you!

We appreciate all your support and look forward to continuing our work together to protect and enhance Washington’s parks, wildlife habitats, and working farm and forest lands.

Many thanks to Patrik Bangle for wonderfully capturing this evening, you can view photos of the event here.

But the work isn’t done. The budget decisions ahead will shape Washington’s outdoors for years to come. Now is the time to keep up the momentum—continue reaching out to legislators, sharing your stories, and rallying your networks. Sign up for our latest news and more advocacy opportunities.

A huge thank you to Washington Recreation & Parks Association, our co-sponsor of the event, and our sponsors—your generosity fuels this movement and ensures we can continue fighting for a greener, healthier Washington.
