Local Parks grants help protect these symbols of vibrant communities, providing places for families to gather and play and promoting a healthy and active lifestyle in an era when people spend increasing amounts of their time inside. The WWRP is the largest source of local parks funding in Washington, helping communities fund the acquisition, development, and renovation of vital recreation areas and green spaces.
This month’s featured project is Lions Park Splash Pan and Inclusive Playground located on the ancestral lands of the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla, palúspam (Palus), and Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation. The City of College Place used this grant to develop a splash pad and inclusive playground at Lions Park. The project also includes the development of accessible walkways, a new picnic shelter, new restrooms, lighting, and new park signage. The primary recreation opportunity the project provides will be aquatic and inclusive play. The competition for this project is scheduled for the end of 2024.
