Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.
This month’s featured project is Burnt Bridge Creek Trail located on the ancestral lands of the Cayuse, Umatilla and Walla Walla, Stl’pulmsh (Cowlitz), and Multnomah people. This project completed an 8-mile non-motorized regional trail system extending east/west along the Burnt Bridge Creek Greenway and through many of Vancouver, WA most populated neighborhoods. This hard-surfaced, shared-use trail offers excellent opportunities for walking, biking, jogging, commuting and viewing of the area. The trail passes through a variety of landscapes, including open grasslands and heavily wooded areas.Key elements of this project included an overpass across Interstate 5 and 2 miles of new trail. In addition, a new trailhead was constructed near Meadow Brook Marsh, at the east end of the project.
