12 Months of WWRP: State Lands Restoration & Enhancement Projects

October 27, 2022

The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.

This project is phase two of restoration at Damon Point, a sand spit peninsula located on the ancestral lands of the Sq’ʷayáiɬaqtmš (Chehalis) in Grays Harbor directly south of the city of Ocean Shores, and extends several miles south towards Westport. This project will treat 90 acres of estuary habitat for invasive species, and conduct plantings on 3 acres to reestablish coastal grassland and forb meadows. In addition, specific, dedicated trails that avoid key habitats will be designated and signed for public access, with educational information to prevent intrusion into sensitive areas. The primary habitat type to be restored is coastal dune habitat. The projected completion date is June 2023.
