Saghalie Park Soccer Field Renovation

Federal Way will use this grant to convert a sand soccer field at Saghalie Park to synthetic turf. The new playing field will allow almost continuous use and reduce maintenance costs. More than 100 youth and adult teams, with about 1,700 members, play on Federal Way fields. Few teams want to play at Saghalie field because of its unforgiving surface, dust clouds, and drainage problems. Field use has dwindled to about 175 games and practices a year. With synthetic turf, an additional 1,600 games and practices are expected. Work will include removing the sand while preserving and supplementing the underlying drainage system. Permanent field lines will be tufted into the turf. The synthetic turf system will reduce environmental impacts by eliminating sand runoff and reducing herbicide treatment and chalk application. Federal Way will contribute $540,000 from cash, donations, and grants.

From I-5 take exit 142B onto WA-18 W toward WA-99 / Federal Way. WA-18 W becomes S 348th St approx 1 mile. S 348th becomes SW Campus Drive approx 3/4 mile. Continue approximately 1.5 miles and turn left onto 19th Ave. SW. Follow road up hill past Saghalie Junior High on left to parking on top of hill.

What is the WWRP?
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
