McKenna Boat Launch Playground
- Status
- Funded in 1999
Pierce County Parks and Centralia City Light propose to install a large community play area on the Nisqually River, at a newly-developed boat launch site. The 4 acre site was purchased by Centralia City Light to meet federal energy licensing requirements for a launch site. However, community residents want the site expanded for a much needed play area which will include a swing, play apparatus, picnic table and trash container. Other than the play area at the local school, this will be the first park facility for community residents. Volunteers have committed labor for installation of this new play structure. The facility is designed to meet current accessibility standards.
Location
Spanaway-McKenna Highway to the northwest and the Nisqually River to the southern boundary line. From Olympia going south on I-5, take the 510 turnoff to Yelm, going through Yelm and on to McKenna. As you cross the Nisqually River, Walt's Tavern is on the right-hand side. The property goes around Walt's place like a U.
