Kiwanis Park Acquisition
- Status
- Funded in 2000
The Kiwanis Park Acquisition project will purchase 2.76 acres adjacent to Yakima’s Kiwanis Park, as part of a phased effort to expand the existing park and create a much-needed sports complex in the city. The surrounding neighborhood is Yakima’s poorest and most densely populated. For community improvement and to help meet high demand for athletic facilities, Kiwanis Park was the city’s top-ranked site for expansion and development of a major sports complex. Along with .52 acres gained from a right-of-way street closure, this phase will provide a total of 3.28 acres for future development. Located at Fair Avenue and Maple Street, Kiwanis Park provides the City's primary softball fields. In addition to three softball fields, the existing 19.5-acre park has a pond, picnic tables, picnic shelter, playground, mature shade trees, restroom and concession stand. Most of the sponsor’s share comes from a land donation by the local Kiwanis Club. The Club stepped forward to purchase and clear a portion of the property, reflecting strong local support for the project.
Location
Exit I-82 onto Yakima Avenue. From Yakima Avenue take Fair Avenue exit south. Approximately 200 feet to the south, head east on Maple Avenue. Maple Avenue dead ends at subject property.
