The WWRP Grant Program
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (RCW 79A.15) is a state grant program that provides funding to protect habitat, preserve working farms and create new local and state parks. It is administered by a state agency, the Recreation and Conservation Office or RCO (formerly Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation or IAC), and funded by the legislature in the state's capital construction budget.
The RCO's Competitive Process
The RCO's award winning evaluation process ensures only the best projects are funded. Local, state, and tribal agencies apply to the RCO for WWRP grants. Independent experts rank the applications based on criteria such as the benefits to the public, level of threat to the property, or presence of threatened or endangered species. The Governor and Legislature set the funding level and approve the project list.
