Larry Scott Trail to be extended by 1.3 miles

The final 1.3 miles of the Larry Scott Memorial Trail are slated for completion by late fall.

The project, which began in September, connects to the existing six miles of trail, intersects South Discovery Bay Road adjacent to the Discovery Bay Golf Course, extends southward along old railroad right-of-way, and reaches a trailhead and 10-vehicle parking area to be built off Milo Curry Road.

The project is funded by a Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program grant through an appropriation by the state Legislature and local funds. Seton Construction of Port Townsend has been awarded the construction contract in the amount of $144,931.

Trail users are requested to limit their activities to already completed portions of the trail during construction, which is set to begin in September and is expected to take about eight weeks.

The Larry Scott Trail, used for walking, bicycling, running, and horseback riding, was named in memory of Larry Scott, an avid cyclist who first sought funding for trail development and died in 1991.
