Farmland Preservation
The Coalition requests that the legislature appropriate $90 million in the 2013-15 capital budget to fund over 100 projects towards the preservation of wildlife habitat, the protection of working farms and the creation of neighborhood parks and ballfields in communities across Washington.
The legislature added the Farmland Preservation account to the WWRP grant program in 2005. It helps cities and counties preserve working farms for their value as agricultural land, habitat, buffers against urban expansion, and as water resources. WWRP grants allow farmers to continue working the land their families have owned for generations. Since 2005, the Coalition has secured $12.5 million for state grants to fund 29 Farmland Preservation projects in Washington State.
