Washington is famous for its gorgeous and abundant waterways, from the Salish Sea to the Nisqually River, but many communities lack open public beaches and waterfronts where everyone can enjoy picnicking, swimming, paddling, boating, and angling. Water Access projects fund public shoreline access, boat launches, and fishing docks to create more opportunities for water recreation.
Project Highlights
Wicks Lake is approximately 9 acres in size and is located in the southwest portion of Kitsap County. Kitsap County purchased approximately 12 acres along Wicks Lake in 1969. The remaining property surrounding the lake is owned by two local timber companies. This project is for acquisition of an additional 140 acres on Wicks Lake to protect the pristine environment and provide for outdoor recreational opportunities like swimming, non-motorized boating, and hiking. Ninety acres were acquired under a waiver of retroactivity. The remaining fifty acres are scheduled for acquisition in 2005.
