Urban Wildlife Habitat projects fund close-to-home places to play and explore nature. As our urban areas are increasingly expanding and densifying, these grants protect important fish and wildlife habitat within five miles of densely populated areas, creating green refuges that help keep our ecosystems healthy and provide places to enjoy nature right in our backyards.
Project Highlights
Funding from this project was used to acquire some of the last remaining key parcels identified as a high priority to complete the West Tiger Mountain Natural esources Conservation Area (NRCA) and the Mount Si NRCA in King County. These parcels will now be managed to protect significant Urban Wildlife Habitat habitat, provide opportunities for low-impact public use and outdoor environmental education, and provide vital open space, landscape connections and scenic vistas in the Mountains to Sound Greenway. This project helped to reduce fragmentation of an important landscape and ecosystem threatened by residential development.
