Urban Wildlife Habitat projects fund close-to-home places to play and explore nature. As our urban areas are increasingly expanding and densifying, these grants protect important fish and wildlife habitat within five miles of densely populated areas, creating green refuges that help keep our ecosystems healthy and provide places to enjoy nature right in our backyards.
Project Highlights
The City of Olympia used this grant to acquire two properties consisting of approximately 2.8 acres of natural open space located in West Olympia between West Bay Drive and Rogers Street. The primary recreation opportunity will be wildlife viewing and environmental interpretation. The City received a waiver to purchase the properties and was reimbursed through this grant. This grant funds only the acquisition of the properties.
