Category Overview
The State Lands Restoration and Enhancement category provides funding to two state agencies to help repair damaged plant and animal habitat. These grants focus on resource preservation and protection of public lands. Projects in this category help bring important natural areas and resources back to their original functions by improving the self sustaining and ecological functionality of sites.
Project Highlights
This project restored fish and wildlife habitat in the Washougal Oaks Natural Area that has been damaged due to fire suppression, conifer invasion, mining, timber harvest, grazing, and invasion of non-native plants. Specifically, 15 acres of horse pasture were planted in Oregon white oaks and other native shrubs, while invasive plants like Himalayan blackberry were treated with tested methods. Fourty- five Douglas fir trees that were thinned during the project were placed in the streams, using helicopter, directly after cutting.
