Farmland Preservation protects valuable farmland and habitat for recreationally important animals, like salmon, birds, deer, and elk. These projects allow families to continue farming the land they have worked on for generations, and provide Washingtonians with healthy local food and a diverse economy. WWRP is the only source of farmland preservation funding in the state budget.
Project Highlights
Columbia Land Trust used this grant to acquire an agricultural conservation easement on 215 acres from the Schmid family who are fourth generation farmers currently operating a certified organic dairy. The family currently produces nutrient rich alfalfa on this property to feed their cows. The family provided the match through donated easement value plus costs. They own several hundred additional acres which may be available for protection in future phases.
