The State Lands Development and Renovation category provides funding to two state agencies to repair, renovate, and develop outdoor recreation facilities on existing recreation lands. As the popularity of outdoor recreation increases in our state, these grants help address overcrowding, ensure our outdoor amenities are safe for public use, improve visitor experience, and allow more people to enjoy our great outdoors.
Project Highlights
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) utilized this grant to construct three trail bridges, reconstruct .7 miles of trail, and build 2 miles of new trail within Tiger Mountain State Forest, accessed off of I-90 and SR 18. DNR constructed a replacement trail bridge to allow the heavily used Iverson RR Grade Trail to reopen and provide a permanent stream crossing for non-motorized trail users. This project also allowed DNR to construct two new bridges along with new trail to provide a connection between Preston RR Grade Trail and Northwest Timber Trail in the eastern part of Tiger Mountain State Forest. The primary recreation opportunities provided by this project are nonmotorized trail uses, including mountain biking, hiking, and equestrian on Iverson RR Grade Trail.
