Trails grants help communities and recreation areas fund the creation and improvement of trails for walking, hiking, cycling, horseback riding, and cross-country skiing. These grants help make communities more livable, create regional trails systems, and open up beautiful outdoor spaces for people to enjoy. WWRP is the largest source of trail support in the state of Washington.

Project Highlights

This project constructed section #1, approximately 2600 feet of 12-foot wide paved trail along the southeast bank of the White River in the core of Sumner, the western limit of which will connect to an existing trail at the confluence of the White and Puyallup Rivers. This project also constructed section #3, approximately 2,140 feet of 12-foot wide paved trail along the east bank of the White River just north of the core of Sumner. This trail is a vital link of two important sections of the Sumner/Pacific Master Trail Plan which connects the Interurban Trail, Puyallup River Trail and the Foothills Trail.

Location Details

The trail is located in Sumner, WA near the intersection of SR-410 and SR-167. The trail runs from the confluence of the Puyallup and White Rivers, upstream along the White River, parallel to West Main Street to Bridge Street Bridge. The proposed western connection can be accessed from the Traffic Avenue exit from SR-410. Take Traffic Avenue to the north for less than a quarter mile and then take a left on State Street. The end of the existing Confluence Trail is on the right just before State Street goes under the highway. West Main Street is just a few blocks north of State Street and intersects with Traffic Avenue and Bridge Street at the same point.

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) is a state grant program that creates and conserves local and state parks, wildlife habitat and working farms. The Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office administers WWRP grants, and the legislature funds the program.
