Critical Habitat projects are our state’s primary tool for conserving important fish and wildlife habitat. These projects protect the rich and diverse habitats in our forests, prairies, and wetlands. These funds help maintain our state’s biodiversity and protect species that are popular for hunting, birding, and other outdoor recreation, and are critical for the health of our salmon and fish populations.
Project Highlights
The purpose of this project is to secure approximately 4,427 acres of critical wetlands near the Skagit River delta, including both fresh and saltwater estuaries and tidelands. This wetland habitat, located in Snohomish and Skagit counties, supports a wide variety of wildlife from waterfowl and bald eagle to coyote and black-tailed deer. The area is popular for hunting as well as bird watching.
