Critical Habitat projects are our state’s primary tool for conserving important fish and wildlife habitat. These projects protect the rich and diverse habitats in our forests, prairies, and wetlands. These funds help maintain our state’s biodiversity and protect species that are popular for hunting, birding, and other outdoor recreation, and are critical for the health of our salmon and fish populations.
Project Highlights
This grant is one of a series of related awards (see Simcoe 2016, 16-1346 and Simcoe 2020, 20-1225) that is focused on preserving portions of the Simcoe Mountains in Klickitat County for habitat protection. With support from this award, WDFW staff explored the possibility of acquiring the Bickelton property, however that acquisition was ultimately unsuccessful. In addition, this grant supported the beginning stages of the purchase for the Simcoe Phase 6 property, including negotiations and management time, along with the appraisal. Acquisition of the property is planned to continue under the related grant, 20-1225.
